Subject: What a great site.

Well Brian,

What can I say. I am most impressed by your site. And, as I am a Dowling, I
have a contribution to make:

First of all my father:

Patrick Aloysius Dowling, born Kilkenny, 21st February 1921
somewhere in Troyswood, Kilkenny. Two brothers, one sister.
Father lived till 81, mother lived till 84.

Married: Teresa White Dob?? Died 1st July 1966.
Won three 'All-Irelands' in Hurling playing for Kilkenny County.
Participated in athletics as a junior and was known to beat
'Dr Roger Bannister' in races.

my brother:
Daniel Dowling, born Kilkenny, 28th November 1953

myself:
William Dowling, born Kilkenny, 6th July 1956

Keep up the good work. Will try and fill out this side of the family tree if
possible. My father knows all the history, but he is clearly quite elderly.

Regards,

Bill Dowling

PS how come Catholics in the south are called Bill or William?

Hi John,

There were Dowlings in Tecumseth Twp, Simcoe Co. in the mid-1800's. Have you checked the 1871 Canadian Census on -line for leads. If you get any good ones let me know. I am looking for the family of my Sarah Dowling m. John McKay bef. 1830. She died sometime after 1839. John McKay died in Innisfil Twp., Simcoe Co. ONtario in 1884.
There is a Francis Dowling buried in Mt. Tegart Methodist Cemetery, in Tecumseth Twp. Happy hunting!

Does anyone know of any Dowlings emigrating to Canada.?

I am researching Sarah Dowling who was probably born abt. 1795. She was married to John Mackay, and they lived in Tecumseth Township, Simcoe Co. Ontario, where they had at least one child in the 1830's. I don't know whether they were married in Canada or not. There are other Dowlings in the vicinity, but what Sarah's relationship to these others is , I don't know. If anyone has come across any references to emigrations to Canada, i'd sure be happy to hear about it!

Thanks,

Chris

Hi, My grandmother was Mildred Louise Dowling. She died about 1946. She married John Leslie Hemmert. He died in 1952.I am just getting started with the genealogy but I know that they were married in the Salt Lake Temple so there is a record of at least 4 generations back from there on file at the LDS Family History center. I just haven't had time to get down there to check it out yet. Will try to do so this week. I have to get back to work now. Bye..

My Dowling line is from Robert to William to Elijah to daugh. Eleanor who married John Hanberry.

We have no pictures of Eleanor Dowling Hanberry or her husband John. If anyone has a picture of either of them, I would be happy to pay the cost of copying and mailing.

My grandfather Hanberry was the one who participated in the yellow fever experiment.

Any help with pictures (or any other info on Eleanor Dowling Hanberry would be greatly appreciated.

Hi list,
I am searching for the parents or ancestors of my gg grandfather John
Hanberry. I believe they emigrated from Galway or Athenry, Ireland in the
early 1700s. John was born in Burke County, Georgia in 1794 and as a young man moved to South Carolina. A "John Handberry" owned land in Burke County in the 1730s. This could be my John's grandfather. John married Eleanor Dowling in South Carolina and her family was known to be from Ireland. Their son married Honora Conniffe who was from Ireland. I will address these two families in separate queries.

If you know of anyone with information about Hanberrys in Ireland please
contact me. If there is a phone book address for any Hanberrys in Athenry or Galway, please contact me.

Thanks,

Chuck Hanberry

Hi Brian,

I do have the information about Elijah and my father is in the Dowling family of the South book. Do you live in Dothan. I have and aunt who also lives there. Her name is Jean Fogg and her husband is Gene also. I don't see her much since I live in San Antonio, Texas. I do send her genealogy "stuff" now and then.

If you do reprint the book, I now have an extensive database of John Hanberry and Eleanor Dowling descendants. I have been working on it for four years.
You may know William "Bill" Hanberry or possibly Agnes Hanberry King. You corresponded with Kathy King Belknap, I think. She is the daughter of Agnes King. Though Bill passed away a year ago, he had worked on the John Hanberry/Eleanor Dowling genealogy for many years.

I just had a black granite stone engraved and will place it on the graves of
John and Eleanor this summer. Have you been to their grave site? It is just outside Denmark, SC.

Are you going to attend the Dowling reunion in August? I am seeking a photo of John and or Eleanor. Since I will not be able to attend the reunion, if you happened to hear of anyone with a photo of Eleanor or John I would pay what ever the cost for a copy. Kathy Belknap will try to make it but I am not sure she can.

I must be honest and say I have not researched the Dowling family much since I cannot trace my Hanberrys past John. I am desperately trying to identify his parents. I am more and more convinced his parents came from Ireland.

Do you know if the Dowlings have a list site on the Internet? If there is
one I would like to join the list and if not perhaps it would be worth
starting one. What do you think?

Please let me know if you plan to update the book. I would be happy to send you John and Eleanor's descendancy chart.

Thanks again for the information, Brian. Keep in touch.

My great grandfather, John Chester Hanberry, married Honora Conniffe in South
Carolina. I am looking for Honora's ancestors in Ireland. Honora's parents,
Patrick Conniffe and Julia Meade were born in Galway, Ireland and migrated to
the East coast of the united States. They eventually were living in South
Carolina in Colleton County. I think Honora was born in Galway, but it could
have been the East coast.

I would be grateful if anyone could help me find any information about
Honora, Julia and Patrick's ancestors there.

Thanks so much,

Chuck Hanberry

(11Feb1999) Brian, Family surnames from Ireland includes; Dowling,O'Connor, McNamarra, Mulholland, McCarty, Markem, Cleary, O'Laughlin.
The family roots came from County Clair, Parish Diser, Ireland, near Ennis. Genealogy descendants = Dowling married McNamarra DOB unknown but it would be before 1800. Michael Dowling married Mary O'Connor born in Clair County, DOB unknown. they are burried in Parish of Diser, near Ennis, Ireland. Her mother was O'Laughlin. Their children came to the United States via port Rochester, New York in 1862. I have not been able to locate the ship to know how many siblings came over, however, I have a record of 7 siblings. Their family history indicates one brother and a sister stayed in New York, and the remaining siblings traveled West working for the railroad. I have a record of 3 boys homestead in Walnut, Crawford County,Kansas. This includes my husband's grandfather Michael DOB 29 April 1843, place County Clari, Ireland. He married Mary Mulholland who was born in Missouri, USA in 1859. Married 2 april 1877. A brother John J. Dowling DOB 1846 married Mary McCarty and Dennis Dowling DOB 1840 married Mary Cleary, born in Ireland. One of the siblings Mary Dowling married Lawrence Markem who was born 23 Jan 1844 Aosersa County, Tiperodise, Ireland, Mary born July 1838. Mary Mulholland's father was Henry ;Mulholland born 1819 Tyrone Co., Dungannon, Ireland. He came to Christine Co, Kentucky 1875. Henry's father was Charles Mulholland and mother was rosa Moore born in England. My husband's aunt recorcded this information on several pieces of paper and the back of photographs. We found this information after her death. It would be interesting if you are able to connect your ancestors to this family. I have no idea the number of siblings in Michael's family who was born Clair County. I am thinking of changing my Internet service in a couple weeks, my E-Mail address will change. I have some print outs I will put in the mail next week. Brian best of luck in your search, I hope this information will be helpful. Sincerely, Regina Dowling
