May On The Day News

May 1st - Beltane Greetings! Our pagan Dowlings would have celebrated Beltane for sure. About the 1st May each year this 'cross-quarter- day is half-way between the spring equinox and the summer solstice. This is the beginning of the season of summer so our ancestors would be feasting, decorating with flowers, and gathering Beltane dew as it brings beauty and youthfulness! My fruit trees are full of blossom with the promise of much fruit for later in the year. For Pagan Dowlings the Celtic year phases are Samhain, Yule, Imbolc, Ostara, Beltane, Litha, Lughnasadh and Mabon, all sensibly marking a solstice, equinox or 'cross-quarter day' critical to ancient lifestyles.
