The On This Day News may occasionally seem an odd selection. The events are selected to reflect the things that affect our ancestors and some occasional events that they may have been aware of, or to show context. Consequently, there is a stronger leaning towards Irish, UK and US events than say, Chinese or Easter European.
The list, almost self-choosing, sadly contains so many events of conflict, cruelty or unfairness, but it is these events which I believe drive population movement more than others. Modern-day events have a similar number of terrible reports but these are often shrouded from us by the noise of fake-news, pop-culture, entertainment, sport and trivia. On analysis these are 'smoke and mirror' reports, akin to the Roman 'bread and circuses' policy serving to distract the masses from the persistent inadequacy of leaders.
